What is osteopathy

Osteopathy provides treatment for problems associated with muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints of the body. It focuses, not only on the joints of the spine, and the nervous system, but on the body as a whole. It is a gentle form of therapy individually tailored for each patient. Treatment is suitable for people of all ages and for a range of health problems including repetitive strain injuries, postural pain caused by pregnancy, driving or work, arthritis and sports injuries.

The first consultation will last for up to an hour. During this time the osteopath will take details of your medical history and current symptoms. This will provide the osteopath with necessary information required to decide which areas should be examined further. After examination the osteopath will discuss with you the diagnosis, the treatment and management plan tailored to your individual needs. Osteopathic treatment can help to reduce pain, improve mobility and promote feelings of wellbeing. Treatment may involve a variety of techniques including soft tissue massage, stretches and passive movement of your joints. In addition exercises and advice may be provided to assist your recovery and empower you with the knowledge to help reduce the likelihood of future reoccurrences.
